Career Building Tools from the AARC: Webcasts

Most RTs must earn CRCE credits to maintain their license to practice. The AARC has many ways for therapists to rack up their CRCEs, from certificate courses in areas like asthma education and pulmonary rehabilitation to exam prep courses to prepare RTs for the NBRC credentialing exams.

But one great way to get the CRCEs you need is to simply tune in to regularly scheduled live webcasts held throughout the year. Generally about an hour in length, these short programs earn AARC members one free CRCE each and are a great way to learn more about key areas of practice.

If you aren’t ready to commit to an entire course that will earn you most or all of the CRCEs you need at one time, the webcasts could be what you want. Sign up for those that interest you most and are set for times that fit best into your schedule, then start plucking away at those CRCEs you need for your license.

The AARC has two webcasts scheduled for this month that illustrate the value of this free continuing education program for members —

  • Andrew G. Miller, MSc, RRT, RRT-ACCS, RRT-NPS, FAARC, will address advanced ventilator modes in the PICU on Jan. 12. The talk will center on modes like high-frequency ventilation, airway pressure release ventilation, and neurally assisted ventilatory assist, which are often used in the pediatric setting. Miller will discuss the physiology, supporting evidence, and patient populations most likely to benefit from each.
  • Michael McPeck, RRT, FAARC, will present the January 2022 Respiratory Care JournalCast on Jan. 21. In addition, he will cover the Editor’s Choice paper in the January issue of the Journal, “The Impacts of High-flow Nasal Cannula Device, Nebulizer Type and Placement on Trans-nasal Aerosol Drug Delivery: An In-vitro Study.” McPeak will talk about the research design and interpret the findings.

All of the webcasts are archived, too, so you can use this membership benefit to brush up on key topics in the field any time you want. Then, simply take a quick post-test and earn a free CRCE for the archived versions!
