The AARC was presented with an amazing opportunity to work with the Texas Society for Respiratory Care. The Houston Rockets stumbled upon a tweet from the AARC Twitter account, promoting Respiratory Care Week. After seeing it, they reached out to the AARC and wanted to highlight respiratory therapists (RT) during their game with the Boston Celtics on Sunday, Oct. 23. The AARC’s response, “of course!”
Mary Hart, Past President of the TSRC, Lanny Inabnit, AARC Vice-President of Education and Meetings, and Sarah Vaughn, AARC Director of Business Development collaborated to provide an opportunity for around 40 RTs to attend the game and show their Respiratory Care Week spirit.
Several RTs attended the game, and all were given an RT t-shirt from the AARC to sport. Five of the RTs who attended were featured on the jumbotron inside the arena for all the crowd to see. It was a moment felt with pride as the crowd cheered for each RT.

Inabnit stated, “I want to thank Trevan Burton from the Houston Rockets for reaching out and working with the TSRC and I to provide this opportunity.” He goes on to say, “we were excited to honor all respiratory therapists during Respiratory Care Week and the AARC appreciates the Rockets for recognizing respiratory therapists.”
The RTs had a great time enjoying the game and mingling with one another. A time to relax, have fun, and feel pride for all the work RTs do every day.
Hart stated, “I’ve missed my RT friends as COVID has changed us all. The game gave us a couple of hours to spend together. She goes on to say, “It was great catching up with old friends and making new ones”.
The AARC hopes to work with other professional sports franchises next year to support respiratory therapists during Respiratory Care Week in October 2022.
