Extending the public health emergency (PHE) or making permanent certain temporary waivers that will expire when it ends are important issues to the AARC. The current PHE declaration is due to expire in mid-July; however, if the Administration decides to let it expire at the end of the current 90-day period, they pledged to give states 60-days notification.

Since yesterday was the deadline to act and there was no official notice from the Secretary of Health and Human Services, the COVID-19 public health emergency is set to be extended for an additional 90 days past the mid-July deadline. That means respiratory therapists can continue to provide virtual outpatient therapeutic services to qualified beneficiaries in their homes that are typically provided in the hospital outpatient department or physician office
