As part of Big Ideas Theater 2018, Thomas Piraino, RRT, of St. Michael’s Hospital, discusses the steps and tools to help RTs visualize mechanical ventilation. Piraino shares examples of what can be done at the bedside to visualize the internal active movement of patients.
“So, now we have the ability to see what is the impact of the pressure we’re putting into the lung, how is it moving the lung, so we have dynamic lung movement and then we have diaphragm function–all things that go beyond just the graphic going in and out of the ventilator,” Piraino said. “So this is really the next step for respiratory therapists.”
Big Ideas Theater 2018 was filmed at the AARC Congress 2018 in Las Vegas, NV. Congress speakers and lecturers shared their expertise and insights during these brief interviews.
