The AARC hosted its annual Summer Forum in June, bringing together 430 attendees from across 46 states. From networking to learning, Summer Forum delivered great experiences for our members.

“What I really liked about the Summer Forum was the opportunity to meet other therapists and learn their perspective on some of the issues and problems they encounter as educators, and how they manage issues,” said Chong Shelton, BS, RRT, clinical instructor for Northwest Arkansas Community College and a first-time attendee of the event.

The event brought together 39 presenters to lead top-quality discussions on relevant topics for our members. For Shelton, a primary takeaway for her from the meeting was attending the various seminars that focused on the future of respiratory care.

“Simply put, Summer Forum is a platform for respiratory educators and managers to network and learn,” said Annissa Buchanan, AARC program coordinator. “More so, Summer Forum serves to revitalize one’s passion for respiratory care; managers and educators are perfectly poised to share these tools with their departments and soon-to-be graduates.”

Shelton expressed her appreciation for the networking chances at Summer Forum. It was through these opportunities where she discussed and learned more about how respiratory care is spreading to other countries.

“The highlight of the event for me was that, amazingly, I had the chance to meet with my instructors from Boise State University and they remembered me as well. That was over 25 years ago,” Shelton said, explaining that the Boise instructors are now working with an international education system in Japan. “Although I was not involved with it, it was very nice to know that respiratory care is spreading to other countries and education has started to become available to those populations.”
