For 2022, we will not hold the annual Sputum Bowl competition.

“Unfortunately, the decision has been made to not hold the 2022 Sputum Bowl, with the expectation that it will be back in 2023,” said Brady Scott, PhD, RRT, RRT-ACCS, AE-C, FAARC, FCCP, AARC Program Committee Chair. “The decision was made based on many state societies being unable to assemble teams for competitions due to the pandemic.”

The program committee wanted to ensure that teams everywhere would have had an equal participation opportunity in preparing for and competing in the bowl. Knowing that the pandemic has continued to cause disruption in our communities, the program committee felt this was the best plan.

“The Sputum Bowl is an important part of Congress, and it is unfortunate that the pandemic continues to impact our members,” Scott said. “But it’ll be back—and I look quite forward to it!”
