As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to surge, introducing new variants, we respiratory therapists everywhere are pushed and tested to their limits. And yet, you, the RT, remain resilient and dedicated to helping all patients facing this respiratory crisis.

Respiratory therapists are an essential part of the critical care teams helping all patients battling COVID-19. With your unique skills and expertise, you are managing the ventilators, committing your life and expertise to helping save your patients. We commend you and remain immensely grateful for all you do each day.

At the end of July, the AARC joined several leading health organizations in calling for health care and long-term care employers to require their employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Because of this, the AARC updated a recent video, made in partnership with Medtronic, that not only highlights the work respiratory therapists do each day but asks our community to get vaccinated. It asks viewers to express their gratitude by taking the time to get their COVID-19 vaccine shot.

The AARC partnered with Medtronic for this video to expand outreach efforts for recognizing respiratory therapists.

“We have a long-standing partnership with the AARC and are proud to partner on the ‘Thank an RT’ campaign,” said Quan Golomb, senior ventilation marketing director of the Respiratory Interventions business, which is part of the Medical Surgical Portfolio at Medtronic. “The pandemic highlighted the importance of the respiratory therapist profession, and the value of clinical expertise to patient outcomes. This an important public awareness campaign to honor the front-line heroes within the profession.”

“The COVID-19 pandemic brought the respiratory therapy profession into our community’s forefront like never before,” said AARC President and CEO Sheri Tooley, BSRT, RRT-NPS, CPFT, AE-C, FAARC. “Now, with our current surge and variant fight, our profession is continuing to be pushed, tested, and battle-ridden. I understand the toll this pandemic is taking. Thank you for remaining strong and resilient through all of this. You do amazing work, and you give us hope that we will persevere beyond this pandemic. Thank you to respiratory therapists everywhere for your commitment to saving lives every day.”

The AARC asks that you share this video on your social channels. It is our hope that this video will help increase community participation in the COVID-19 vaccine and highlight the essential role the respiratory therapist plays in patient care.
