Lanny Inabnit, MS, RRT, RRT-ACCS, RRT-NPS, RCP, FAARC, will join the AARC as the new Vice President of Education and Meetings. Inabnit will start on May 31. In this role, Inabnit will lead the Education and Meetings division, which covers the both the Education department and the Meetings and Conventions department. This position was newly created after a restructuring of the AARC organization.

“I am blessed to have been chosen to join the amazing team at the AARC as the new Vice-President of Education and Meetings,” Inabnit said. “I look forward to working with and learning from this dynamic group of people. I will bring a passion to learn and grow in this position. I know the work that is being done and I look forward to helping to lead the AARC into the next chapter.

Inabnit joined the AARC in 1993 as a student and has never stopped being a member since.

“The AARC has given me more than I have ever given it,” Inabnit said. “I feel like the work of so many helps the bedside respiratory therapist have the tools they need to advocate and be a voice for their patients. I am honored to be a respiratory therapist and I am a proud AARC member.”

About Lanny

Inabnit graduated from Southern Illinois University with an Associate in Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy Technology in December of 1994. He moved to southeast Missouri and worked for three years before moving to Charlotte, North Carolina to work at a large teaching hospital.

“I worked in adult, pediatric, and neonatal areas while working at this facility,” Inabnit said. “I moved to a 400-bed hospital in Concord, North Carolina to help develop and manage a pediatric intensive care unit in 2000.”

In August of 2001, Inabnit was hired as a full-time respiratory therapy instructor at Stanly Community College.

“This began my career in education,” Inabnit said. He worked there for nine years until in 2010 he returned to bedside care at a local hospital.

During his time at Stanly Community College, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Health Services Management from East Carolina University. He then worked as a night-shift respiratory therapist for the next couple of years while also completing a Master of Science degree in Respiratory Care Leadership from Northeastern University.

“I am passionate about respiratory therapy, and I have always worked hard to be an advocate for the patients that I served,” Inabnit said. “I love being an educator and I am proud of each student I ever taught at the associate and bachelor level. They continue to amaze me with their passion and drive for the profession. I am honored to have been a part of their educational journey.”

Outside of work, Inabnit is a passionate Carolina Panthers and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He is also now a huge fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide. Roll Tide!

Community Support

“I did not get here on my own as I have had amazing mentors along the way,” Inabnit said. In addition to great mentors along the way, Inabnit credits his family for their constant help in building his career.

“I have an amazing family who has supported me throughout my career,” Inabnit said. “My wife Robin and kids Kiley and Eli have motivated me to be a better person. Their support in all I do is wonderful. I also want to thank my mom and brothers who have supported me and always encouraged me to be the best person I can be.”
