With the Supreme Court decision that upholds the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, the AARC is looking toward the future of health care in this country, where there are protections for access to insurance for all.
In announcing the majority opinion, Chief Justice John Roberts said, “Congress passed the Affordable Care Act to improve health insurance markets, not to destroy them. If at all possible, we must interpret the Act in a way that is consistent with the former, and avoids the latter.”
The AARC, noting the decision, said it is time to put aside all political maneuvering and get down to the business of delivering health care and ensuring quality. “We need to assure that readmissions for COPD patients are reduced; that all asthma patients have access to their medications; that all pulmonary patients are able to have access to the specialized care delivered by respiratory therapists. This includes care beyond the walls of the hospital including telehealth,” said AARC President Frank Salvatore. “We hope this decision will allow health care providers to focus on what matters, which is the patient.”
“It’s the health of our public that is important,” said Salvatore.
