February was named American Heart Month by the American Heart Association (AHA). To kick off the campaign, Friday, Feb. 3 is National Wear Red Day to raise awareness for cardiovascular disease. According to the AHA, an estimated 630,000 Americans die from heart disease each year, the leading cause of death for both men and women. Join the AARC in wearing red to support the battle against heart disease.

When you wear red on Friday be sure to snap a quick picture and send it to us, so we can feature you on AARC’s social media pages. Email your photos to newsroom@aarc.org or message them to us on social media.

Feb. 7 kicks off the start of Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) Awareness Week, occurring Feb. 7-14. According to Project Heart, CHD is the world’s most common birth defect, affecting 1.35 million infants every year worldwide. This is a great opportunity to educate your community and patients about the prevalence of CHD, as well as the need for research and access to quality care.

By helping spread awareness for CHD you are also helping to raise funding for research. Here are practical ways you can help:

  • Support the campaign by sharing facts and using #CHDAware in your posts.
  • Find fact sheets and other resources at the Children’s Heart Foundation site to share

Email newsroom@aarc.org with questions or comments, we’d love to hear from you.
