Respiratory therapy students from Texas State University traveled to Guyana in Africa for a study abroad program. The students visited medical facilities, assisting and demonstrating their RT skills. Sharon Armstead, MBA, RRT, Texas State professor, hopes this trip and the students’ work will help instill the value of the respiratory profession for the University of Guyana. James J. McKanna, RRT of Union Hospital in Indiana, shares his expertise with WTHI-TV on COPD and the cold. He explains how cold weather affects breathing and provides tips for patients. Check out the broadcast video. Char Raley, RRT of Avera McKennan Hospital in South Dakota, also shared her expertise with a local news station about protecting your lungs during the cold weather. Jon Inkrott, RRT, RRT-ACCS, shares his experience as a transport team RT in Florida. The story features a recent patient of Inkrott’s who had gone into cardiac arrest and needed to be transported for further care. Elaine Alice Jones, RRT, of Sauk Prairie Health Care in Wisconsin, helps lead a smoking cessation program in partnership with the American Lung Association. The Reedsburg Times-Press featured the program in an article for tips and suggestions on keeping your New Year’s Resolutions.
