David Woldow, who recently served as a judge for the medical-related experiments at a local science fair, says he always asks kids how they picked their topic, reports this article in the Daily Journal out of New Jersey. “A lot of them come from personal experience,” he was quoted as saying. “They have somebody who is sick or somebody injured and that’s why they picked what they have done.”

Jenn Walton is one of two RTs featured in this “day in the life” article about respiratory therapists on the Akron Children’s website. “Kids are so resilient and are usually less crabby than adults,” she was quoted as saying. “I like knowing I had a hand in helping them get better.”

Brenda Ludens shares the story of her mother’s untimely death due to unrecognized sepsis in this article and video on the Keloland Television website out of Sioux Falls, SD. “If this can happen to me and my family, it can happen to any family. And that’s my goal, to educate; Make people aware of the signs and symptoms of sepsis,” Brenda was quoted as saying.

Bobbi Brown talks about her pulmonary support group in this article in the Lakeland, FL, Ledger. ”I try to give them tools to better manage themselves and their physician visits,” she was quoted as saying.

Molly Schaefer touts her hospital’s pulmonary rehabilitation program in this article in the Britt, IA, News Tribune. “It’s important for people to know that they don’t have to travel far to receive quality pulmonary services. We offer a variety of services right here at Hancock County Memorial Hospital,” she was quoted as saying.

Professional athletes are touting the use of hyperbaric oxygen chambers to treat the effects of concussions, but Dr. Gerald Zavorsky emphasizes the science just isn’t there in this article and video on the CBS-TV website out of Georgia. “I think as scientists and researchers we shouldn’t take testimonies for granted; it needs to be backed up with research,” he was quoted as saying.

Lauren Perlman is noted for her role in helping a physician start a house calls program for children with complex respiratory needs in this article in the STAT News. The program, which operates out of Boston Children’s Hospital, is aimed at helping these kids avoid readmissions.

Cassidy Sanders’ new job at a local pulmonology clinic is the focus of this article in the Iron Mountain, MI, Daily News. “I believe first that it is most important to listen carefully to what my patient is telling me and how he or she is describing the problem,” the RT and physician’s assistant was quoted as saying. “Once we discover the root cause of the problem, I involve the patient in the plan of care.”
