Good Press spotlights AARC members mentioned in the news media at a local and national level. Here is the latest list of news makers:

Meagan Dubosky’s new job as manager of respiratory care is covered in this article on the Rush Oak Park Hospital website. “My goal at Rush Oak Park Hospital is to offer my team education that will enable them to grow and become advanced practice respiratory therapists,” she was quoted as saying.

Tudy Giordano and her Honor Flight DFW organization receive three cheers in this letter to the editor in the Dallas, TX, Morning News. Tudy has been working with the group, which organizes trips to Washington, DC, for World War II vets, for many years.

Christie Ward is recognized for being named her hospital’s Employee of the Month in this article in the Jackson, TN, Sun. “I knew when I was a little girl with uncontrolled asthma that I wanted to be a respiratory therapist,” she was quoted as saying. “I looked up to them as heroes, and now I’m able to do what I’m passionate about and improve the lives of others.” Her manager Lyn Tisdale says of Christie, “She’s not afraid to take on a challenge, and she’s a problem solver.”

Valerie Boyd questions the value of e-cigarettes to help people quit smoking in this article in the Hillsdale, MI, Daily News. “You have to want to quit,” she was quoted as saying. “It is well worth the effort.”

Mike Avery receives kudos for graduating from his RT program with a 4.0 GPA in this article on the KTAL-TV website out of Louisiana. “My choice of Bossier Parish Community College to prepare for a new career as a Respiratory Therapist is one of the very best decisions of my life,” he was quoted as saying. “Never before have I had the pleasure of being associated with so many friendly, knowledgeable, and caring people.”

Jeff Karamol has been named athletic director for his local youth athletic organization and this article in the Dublin, OH, Villager covers his long association with the group. “I want to make sure it’s still all about the kids, making sure that they have the facilities to play and the opportunities,” he was quoted as saying.

Joe Lewarski’s new position as vice president of global respiratory and sleep at DeVilbiss Healthcare is covered in this article in Sleep Review Magazine. Joe brings more than 30 years of experience in health care to the job.

Barbara Doorley is noted for helping to bring a fresh foods market to her hospital in this article on the NBC-TV website out of Rhode Island. “It’s nice to be able to grab fresh produce to come home to cook and have in the house,” she was quoted as saying.

Leon C. Lebowitz comments on a recent survey showing a lack of COPD knowledge among patients in this article on Medical.net. “I think if asked, most people actually realize that smoking causes disease,” he was quoted as saying. “However, the survey reveals that important information about the variety and severity of these types of disease[s] is not reaching those at risk for COPD.”

Alison Harrington talks about a grant her hospital received to launch the Baby and Me Tobacco Free program for expectant and new moms in this article in the Bismarck, ND, Tribune. “Quitting tobacco can be very difficult, and I am pleased that we will be able to assist pregnant women in their efforts,” she was quoted as saying.

Carrie Staab and her colleagues are also implementing the Baby and Me Tobacco Free program and the move was covered in this article in the St. Genevieve, MO, Herald. “Offering resources and incentives together to help them kick the habit looks like it will prove to be a successful strategy,” she was quoted as saying.
