The National Respiratory Patient Advocacy Award is the only nationally-recognized advocacy program dedicated to honoring outstanding registered respiratory therapists nominated by leadership. Through a collaboration of the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) and The FACES Foundation (Family & Caregiver Education & Support), the award commemorates a vital member of the health care team: the respiratory therapist. This excellent professional appreciates the “individual” instead of the “patient” and is dedicated to the principle that every breath matters.

We are proud to announce the National Respiratory Patient Advocacy Award recipient, Martina Compton, RRT, NPS, RPFT.
Martina has extensive knowledge and experience and is truly dedicated to her patients. She participates in the system’s many projects and has developed as a leader beyond her institution. Her passion to improve the lives of persons with CF is evident, not only in her patient care, but also in her longstanding participation in CF fundraising and awareness endeavors. She embodies the spirit of what The Cystic Fibrosis Foundations calls “partnering,” relating to patients and families as collaborators to achieve better quality of life.. |

National Respiratory Patient Advocacy Award Finalist, Tomeeka Rounds, MPH, BS, RRT.
Tomeeka always puts her patients first. On many occasions she has sat with her patients and family members listening to their concerns offering them guidance, courage, and comfort during their healing process. She is a patient advocate, resource, mentor, and educator each and every day. When Tomeeka found out her patient couldn’t go home due to mold and had no family in the area to help her, she compiled a list of available apartment vacancies, prices, and locations to assist with the patient’s move. |

National Respiratory Patient Advocacy Award Finalist, Mark Limanowski, BHA, RRT.
Mark has proven to be an integral member of his interdisciplinary team. He has helped his facility develop a comprehensive pulmonary program designed to enhance the quality of life of patients and residents. Burgess Square Healthcare and Rehab Centre mostly serves medically complex patients that require extensive rehabilitation prior to discharging into the community. Since Mark has joined the Burgess Square team as our respiratory therapist, Burgess Square has seen a 36% decrease in rehospitalizations related to pulmonary diagnoses. |
