Elections Committee Questions:

Within your role, and if given the opportunity, how would you incorporate and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion to uphold, update, and uplift the AARC as an organization, all AARC affiliates, and all AARC members?

As the declaration of independence states, and I affirm, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” In concordance, I believe all humans deserve to be treated with dignity because they have been created in the image of God. By no means, should race, religion, gender or preferences prevent any person from contributing to our profession, we should be inclusive to all and a diverse membership, leadership and contributors strengthens our profession. Challenges to existing ideas provides opportunity for discussion, evaluation and growth. That said, the AARC upholds a ethical and medical standards as presented in the associations Code of Conduct and various scientific publications such as RCJournal and Clinical Practice Guidelines. As a Director, I feel it is our role to ensure that the association business is upholding that.

What ideas would you present to increase AARC membership?

The key point to attracting and retaining members is to demonstrate value of membership. We must be able to tangibly and simply promote the key points of value to our membership. I think a new way of approaching this topic would be to survey members and nonmembers separately and ask them what they value. Then promote our advertising of how we are doing those things in a specific way. We know that we are doing amazing things every day to bring value to the membership, but I don’t think we are promoting the items that those groups are keying on and thus they may not find value in the things we do promote as essential to the profession. Consequentially, it may not hit home on a personal level and thus they do not become members.

Role-Specific Questions:

Your role as Director-at-large is to represent the general AARC membership. If given the opportunity to represent, how have you prepared or educated yourself to adequately represent the national membership?

In my role as Director of Clinical Education and Delegate I have a broad reach of most therapists in the state of Montana as well as many more in the surrounding regions such as ND, ID, WY and WA as well as the connections I have made all across the country and even world wide in RC. This experience has allowed me to be on the front lines and have regular communication with members and non-members alike. This level of communication suits me well to be able to represent a vast number of members concerns, thoughts and ideas as a representative to them on the board of directors.

I am experienced in finance and budget meetings and discussions both with the AARC/MSRC and several other citizen boards such as my time with the Lewis & Clark Foundation and the Finance Committee as a Deacon for my Church Board. I have experience with board meetings on several levels and types of organizations.
