In October of 2021, Dr. Lynda Goodfellow, Ed.D., RRT, AE-C, FAARC, joined the AARC as the new Director of Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) Development. This position was newly created after a restructuring of the AARC organization. Since her arrival, the AARC has worked to improve our current CPG’s, retire outdated ones, and even translate a few into other languages.
On September 15, the third CPG team arrived at the AARC Executive Office to begin work on examining the transition from hospital to home for patients on oxygen therapy. The focus of the day was to review the process of discharge planning for patients with oxygen therapy and the transition to the home. The highlight of the meeting was having two oxygen therapy patients join the team virtually to inform the team of their lived experiences over the past 20 years with home oxygen. This was instructive and allowed all members of the team to probe into several issues that respiratory therapists, discharge planners, home health services, and patients must navigate. More to come in the next several months.
Team members of the CPG team are Mike Hess (chair), Krystal Craddock, Leanne Richardson, Sharon Armstead, and Brian Ring. Jeanne Rommes and John Linnell are Patient Stakeholders, and consultants are Miriam O’Day, Chris Garvey, and Dean Hess.
