Within your role, and if given the opportunity, how would you incorporate and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion to uphold, update, and uplift the AARC as an organization, all AARC affiliates, and all AARC members?
As a section leader, it’s important to be open-minded and welcoming of all comments and ideas – as members are nationwide. I would encourage members to participate in conversations and be impartial.
What ideas would you present to increase AARC membership?
Recruitment of students!
I believe we should have a presentation ready for each RT program making post acute care attractive. When I was in school, all I wanted to do was work in the ICU and ER – but there’s a ton of autonomy working on the post acute side, that I wasn’t aware of. I also didn’t understand how important post-acute care was in the management of disease. Having a single message from the AARC to attract these students would give us a long-term pool of RTs.
We should also host an event at Congress for current students to promote post-acute care, having them sign up for the group.
Role-Specific Questions:
Value of section membership is important. If given the opportunity to represent, what would be some steps you would take to continue to increase the value of section membership and gain further engagement of section members?
With the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be a great need for sharing of information to manage all the patients being discharge from the hospital with respiratory needs. This group would be full of experts to navigate this unforeseen situation. We will all be learning from each other – which alone will engage members to participate.
I think the library of documents will be important to update with all COVID-19 data, guidelines, etc. It will be a great resource for new members as they join.
