In September 2014, Dr. Lewis Rubinson was a World Health Organization (WHO) consultant clinician at Kenema Government Hospital in Sierra Leone. He oversaw the care of several hundred patients infected with the Ebola Virus during his time in West Africa.
In this presentation, Dr. Rubinson summarizes the history of Ebola outbreaks while providing clinical context for Ebola Virus Disease. He also discusses how patients infected with the Ebola virus may present to U.S. healthcare facilities and the implications for respiratory care. Dr. Rubinson places special focus on the transmission of the virus, uncertainties with regards to respiratory care intervention, and providing care to the patient while also protecting healthcare providers.
