Hospitals nationwide are discovering growing numbers in patients with a higher risk for death due to harmful combinations of opioid use and undiagnosed / untreated sleep disordered breathing. This program identifies components that trigger the rise of preventable deaths including: underlying co-morbidities, respiratory disorders such as COPD, and restrictive diagnoses associated with sleep disordered breathing. Pairing the identified risks with poly-pharmacy and home over the counter medications can be deadly match for patients with acute and chronic pain if not managed properly. Hospital-wide active prevention starts with respiratory therapists at the bedside.
