In July 2013, TJC announced the Alarm Management National Patient Safety Goal. The purpose of this goal is to improve the safety of clinical alarm systems by focusing on managing clinical alarm systems that have the most direct relationship to patient safety. Alarm fatigue may result from overwhelming alarm systems within the patient care environment and lead to desensitization to alarms. The presenter will discuss alarm fatigue, the 2014 TJC NPSG, and the respiratory therapist’s role in patient safety.
