In this episode of Big Ideas Theater, we welcome to the stage Lanny Inabnit, MS, RRT, RRT-ACCS, RRT-NPS, RCP, FAARC, from Boise State University. Inabnit discusses the effects of co-morbid conditions on COPD outcomes from both a cost and clinical perspective. He goes onto discuss how some patients have several co-morbid conditions, but clinicians sometimes don’t link them to COPD. The co-morbid conditions can still manifest within the COPD diagnosis. Inabnit works to help clinicians understand how to be investigative. He explains that diseases are usually “never singular, but plural” as a way of encouraging clinicians to dig deeper into a diagnosis.
Inabnit goes on to explain how being conversational with patients can help their overall outcome and cut costs. Asking patients how their co-morbid conditions correlate with their COPD is just one way of doing this.
Big Ideas Theater 2019 was filmed at the AARC Congress 2019 in New Orleans, LA. Congress speakers and lecturers shared their expertise and insights during these brief interviews.
