Forrest Bird Video Chronicles Life of Respiratory Legend

Many RTs are familiar with Dr. Bird’s story — how he translated his lifelong interest in aviation into the development of medical devices capable of saving lives. This historical journey was captured on film and played at his memorial ceremony. In the Forrest Bird video, we get an inside look at how “Fate, Chance & Circumstance” chronicled the life and times of this most amazing man.

As the inventor of the world’s first modern respirator in the early 1950s, Dr. Forrest Bird had a remarkable and enduring impact on the profession of respiratory care. As the AARC’s oldest living member prior to his death last summer at the age of 94, Dr. Bird made significant contributions to our professional organization as well.
