The OPEN FORUM is one of the most anticipated events at the AARC Congress. After all, where else can respiratory therapists hear about original research conducted by and for members of their profession?
Respiratory Care Editor Dean Hess, PhD, RRT, FAARC, explained why the Forum is such a popular part of the Congress during an interview with AARC-TV’s Ed Heiland in the Big Ideas Theater at AARC Congress 2016 in San Antonio.
“The dynamic is great,” said Dr. Hess, noting it’s not just about the presentations themselves but about the exchange of ideas that invariably happens when people congregate to view the posters.
“That’s an opportunity for all of us to mingle, to share ideas, to drill down a bit on the subject matter that might be on the poster,” he continued. “The genesis of a lot of good ideas for posters that might be presented next year at the OPEN FORUM comes from those interactions.”
With three ways to present — the Forum offers posters-only sessions, poster discussion sessions and an Editors’ Choice session featuring the top abstracts submitted that year — everyone from seasoned investigators to first-time researchers can find a place to showcase their work.
For more than four decades now, respiratory therapists and their colleagues have been presenting original research in the AARC OPEN FORUM. The studies presented during this annual event add to the scientific evidence supporting the profession, and RTs who submit abstracts to the Forum further their own careers by demonstrating their commitment to enhancing the understanding of the treatments, techniques, and modalities therapists use every day on the job.
