Whether you work in a sleep lab now, are thinking about making the transition, or just want to learn more about this exciting area of respiratory care, the AARC’s Sleep Specialty Section is a great place to network with like-minded peers. And now the section is getting even better. New Section Chair Peter Allen, BS, RRT-NPS, RRT-SDS, RST, RPSGT, has the energy to harness section members’ great ideas for making the Sleep Section into one of the premiere sections in the AARC.
As the clinical coordinator/physician liaison at Riddle and Exton Sleep Disorders Centers for Main Line Health System in Pennsylvania, Peter brings a wealth of experience to the position. He plans to engage more members in the day-to-day activities of the section, and he is also committed to raising awareness of sleep among respiratory therapists outside of the specialty to help ensure more patients with undiagnosed sleep disorders get the testing and treatment they need.
Here’s what he’s working on for the section right now —
- A Sleep Section survey to help guide the section regarding the clinical, educational, and business concerns of its members.
- Nominations for the section’s 2015 Specialty Practitioner of the Year Award.
- A review of AARC Congress 2015 aspects pertaining to the section and other conference updates.
- Sleep disorders center regulatory, legislative, and technology updates.
- Updated networking and career opportunities.
Combine these initiatives with the section’s ongoing benefits (monthly newsletters with the latest research studies, quarterly Bulletins written by and for section members, and a dedicated discussion list on AARConnect) and it’s easy to see why the Sleep Section is a must for any AARC member who works with patients and/or technologies related to the sleep disorders field.
